Iris Jaffe (b. 1982, New York, NY) is an artist and curator in the visual arts. Her acrylic and oil paintings on canvas are a vibrant blend of personal and cultural symbolism that draw inspiration from a range of intellectual disciplines, aesthetic styles, and areas of life. The artist's use of bright, bold colors and unique juxtapositions imbue her paintings with a sense of ​​energy and mystery. Each piece is a collage of visual experiences and historical references, inviting the viewer to engage with multiple layers of meaning and interpretation.

Iris Jaffe’s artwork has been exhibited across the continental U.S. and in Brittany, France. Her work was showcased in the book Making History Bushwick, alongside many peers who have highly productive careers in contemporary art.  She has been featured as a curator and published as a writer in Hyperallergic, where her essay the Anti-Artist's Statement Statement went viral, eventually finding its way onto many a college syllabus.  

 

Iris earned a BA with honors from Brown University, with a double major in visual art and art history, where she received numerous awards in the arts. She additionally received awards from the Rhode Island School of Design and Brandeis University, the latter being where she attended a post-baccalaureate program. Iris is also an accomplished project manager and has served as studio manager to contemporary sculptor Tom Sachs, executive assistant to art gallerist Ronald Feldman, and as a manager of many complicated non-art related projects.  The artist currently lives and works in Westchester, New York.
