In my work, I'm drawn to the history of style and aesthetics, the expressive power of color, and the spiritual qualities of light. As a product of globalization myself — my mother is Chinese and my father is of Lithuanian and Polish descent—themes of duality, synthesis, and hybridization are dominant themes in my life that now run throughout my artistic practice. My brightly colored paintings combine flat, graphic areas with sections that are built up through light and shadow, merging disparate aesthetic qualities in each piece. I additionally use neon and reflective paints to enhance the way my surfaces communicate light and respond to their environments. Conceptually, my work is dense with personal and historical symbolism and references to art history.
